How To Make Honey Walnut Shrimp – Recipe In Details
Step 1
To begin the prep for this yummy Cantonese recipe, first, wash and clean your shrimp. And then, peel off the skins from the shrimp pieces and also devein them. We have used here fresh and big pieces of shrimp.
Step 2
Now, in a bowl, add the shrimp pieces, Shaoxing rice wine and salt. Mix everything with your hand, spoon or spatula and also add a bit of potato starch to the bowl. Once everything is combined, move ahead to the batter with which we will be coating all your marinated shrimp pieces.
Step 3
In another bowl, add the egg whites and then with the help of a hand whisk, beat the egg whites until bubbles are formed. Later on, add Mochiko flour into the bowl. Mochiko flour happens to be a flour made of Glutinous rice! If you don’t have Mochiko flour, feel free to use a mix of egg whites, potato starch and a bit of oil.
Step 4
Once your batter is ready, quickly prepare the candied walnuts. In a pan, add 3 to 4 tablespoons of regular sugar and a bit of water. Keep the flame low and cook it until you see a bright brown caramel color. Once the caramel is ready, simply add your walnuts to the pan, and toss it with the caramel sauce and keep aside.
Step 5
Now in your frying pan, heat up vegetable oil. Dip your marinated shrimp pieces into the Mochiko and egg batter and once the oil is hot, one by one, release the shrimp pieces into the frying pan. Fry the shrimp until crispy, we suggest fry them for at least 6 to 7 minutes.
Step 6
Last but not least, prepare your rich, tasty and sweet mayonnaise sauce. In a bowl, add mayonnaise, a bit of honey and condensed milk. Add your crispy battered shrimp pieces into the bowl and with the help of a spatula, properly toss them in the mayonnaise sauce.
Step 7
Serve your dish on a fancy plate and don’t forget to place the candied walnuts on top of it. Enjoy your honey walnut shrimp with a fizzy drink on the side. This dish surely qualifies to be a perfect snack recipe.
