Best Shepherd’s Pie recipe: A Step-by-step Guide Only For You
Step 1
At first, we will make the potato topping. Take a large pot and add water to it. Start pouring in the potatoes and make sure, water covers all of them fully. Turn on the heat and start cooking the potatoes till the water starts to boil profusely. After 10 to 15 minutes, you will notice potatoes getting tender.
Step 2
Remove the pan from heat and drain the excess water from the boiled potatoes. Use a colander and drain properly till there’s no liquid left in the pot for a delicious Shepherd’s Pie recipe topping. For a minute or two, leave the potatoes alone so that excess steam does not cause any trouble. Pour in butter, Half & Half, and Garlic Powder.
Step 3
Using the back of a big spoon, start mashing the potatoes along with the spice and butter. Mash thoroughly and combine the potatoes with the other ingredients. Then, pour in salt and pepper from above. Keep stirring vigorously to combine everything well. Top it up with freshly grated Parmesan Cheese.
Step 4
Once you are done with the potatoes, we will prepare the filling for the Shepherd’s Pie recipe. Take a large skillet and pour oil in it. Then, turn on the flame, and let the oil heat up in a medium to high flame. Gradually, pour in the onion and start stirring them. Afterwards, pour in the ground lamb.
Step 5
To make the filling smoother, take a wooden spoon and start breaking the meat apart. Just in case there’s some hard chunk, mash and grind it with the back of the spoon. Pour in salt and pepper, thyme, rosemary, parsely and stir it well till they are all combined. Keep cooking for 8 to 9 minutes, and you will notice the meat turning brown.
Step 6
Next, we will add flavor to the meat by pouring in Worcestershire Sauce and garlic powder. Just after a minute of cooking, you will have to pour the flour and tomato paste into the pan. To make the Shepherd’s Pie recipe filling without any lumps, we would recommend you to turn the heat down and stir carefully through the whole mixture once.
Step 7
Finally, we will add frozen corn kernels and the broth. Top this up with a cup of frozen carrots and stir this once. Keep cooking till the liquid starts to boil. Bring the heat down and let it simmer for 6 minutes. After that happens, set the mixture aside and preheat your Dutch oven to 400°F.
Step 8
Take a big baking fish, pour in the meat mixture and keep it in the center, away from the sides. With a spoon, evenly spread the layer of mashed potatoes above. If there are uneven lumps, discard that part. Without covering, start baking this for at least 25 minutes. Now, your traditional Shepherd’s Pie recipe is ready to serve.
