Blueberry Crumble Pie Recipe

When it’s the Blueberry season, one of the dishes that surely none of us can forget is the blueberry crumble pie which we used to have in our childhood. However, the recipe may seem a bit tedious for non-bakers at first. No worries, the recipe that we have listed below can be considered an easy Blueberry Crumble Pie Recipe, which is surely going to bring back childhood memories. 

Ingredients

One 9-inch  pie crust, which has been properly chilled (with no filling inside), 2/3 cups of granulated sugar which is approximately 140 grams, two and half a tablespoon of cornstarch, one teaspoon of lemons zest, two tablespoons of fresh lime juice, 5 cups of fresh blueberries(properly rinsed and then dried), half of a small Apple properly grated, two third cup of all-purpose flour(approximately 90 grams), 1/3 cup of light brown sugar(approximately 60 grams), 1/3 cup of unsalted butter(cold), and one tablespoon of granulated sugar(for crumble).

Step 1

Before making the filling, we will be preparing our basic crust. First, preheat the oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit, then in a pie dish, that has already been greased with a bit of butter or covered with parchment paper, you will be placing your cold pie crust. Then you will be putting on top of it some pie weights or beans whichever you prefer. Then you will put it in the oven to bake for about 20 minutes. After which you will remove the weights, and again bake it for a total of 10 mins, which will make the pie crust all ready and slightly golden brown. Let it rest outside for a while. 

Step 2

Now in a Big Bowl, we will be mixing together the sugar cornstarch as well as the lemon zest. Then in that mixture, you will add in your blueberries, grated apple along with lemon juice. Finally, give it a slight mix or a toss so that every bit of the mixture is covered properly. Finally, you will let it set aside for a while(approximately 30 to 40 minutes) so that the blueberries will let the juice out and it will turn into a proper filling for our pie.

Step 3

In a food processor, you will be combining, flour, brown sugar, butter, and sugar. Now you will be mixing it till the entire mixture turns into a crumble. Cold butter will be a very important component for this particular step. Then after it has turned into a crumble, you will take it out of the food processor, and keep it aside in a refrigerator for the next step. 

Step 4

Now comes the final step of assembling up the pie. First, in the already baked pie crust, you will apply a little bit of butter in the inner lining of the crust. Then you will be finally pouring in your blueberry mixture which you have been keeping aside. Finally, top it off with the cold crumble mixture. Put it in the oven to bake for about 1 hour 45 minutes, at 375 degrees Fahrenheit.

Keep checking the Pie every once in a while to make sure the upper layer doesn’t get burnt. When it’s all ready, take it out of the oven let it cool down, cut off Pieces from the pie, and serve it to your friends and family. 

If you don’t have fresh blueberries, you can use the dried frozen ones, but you will need to get them to normal temperature and keep them rinsed in some water for quite a while so that the mixture turns out in the proper texture. Along with that, some portions of this recipe have been moderated for the ease of the baker, but we can assure you that it going to give you a very authentic blueberry crumble pie taste.
