This might look quite similar to Kimbap, but you would be surprised to know that Makizushi is quite different from regular Kimbap. Thus, on popular demand here is a complete guide to an incredibly tasty and simple makizushi recipe. 

But before we head to the recipe, let us quickly tell you what is makizushi? The term basically refers to sushi rolls which don’t have too many ingredients and are often seasoned with rice vinegar.

Simple And Easy Makizushi Recipe! 

If you want to make Makizushi at home, then you have surely come to the right place. Ready within just an hour, from ingredients to a complete recipe guide, here is all you need to know about makizushi rolls. 

Makizushi Ingredients List 

  • Vegetable oil for cooking 
  • 200 gm of Sushi rice 
  • 1 ½ – 2 tbsp. rice vinegar 
  • ½ tsp. brown sugar 
  • Nori Seaweed sheets
  • 2-3 eggs 
  • Fresh Salmon, thinly sliced
  • Fresh Tuna, thinly sliced 
  • Fresh cucumbers, thinly sliced 

How To Make Makizushi? Recipe Guide! 

  1. To make simple and easy makizushi, first prepare your sticky rice. Begin by washing the sushi rice thoroughly and then, cook it within the rice cooker. 
  2. Do not use too much water to cook the rice. Next in a small glass bowl, add rice vinegar, brown sugar and a pinch of salt. Heat this mixture for about 10-20 seconds.
  3. Once the rice is cooked, add the rice vinegar mix and combine it properly with your sticky rice. Remember, to make makizushi, your sticky rice should have the right consistency. 
  4. Bring the sushi rice to room temperature and only then, move on to the next recipe step. To make makizushi, you will surely need a sushi mat. 
  5. Next, in a bowl, add eggs, and a bit of salt and whisk it for a few minutes. If you want, you can also use dashi powder here. Now heat an omelet pan, drizzle a bit of vegetable oil and then start making your Tamago. Remember the egg roll shouldn’t be too thick. 
  1. Once your Tamago is ready, cut the egg roll into thin slices and move on to assembling the makizushi. For this, start by spreading the Nori Seaweed sheet onto the mat.
  2. Remember to assemble all the fillings on the rough side of the Nori Seaweed sheet. Firstly, add the sticky rice as the base of your sushi. Make sure that the sushi rice is spread evenly all over the Nori Seaweed sheet, the filling shouldn’t be too little or excessive. 
  3. Next add a slice of egg, a piece of Tuna, a slice of Salmon and lastly fresh cucumber on one side of your makizushi. Now, slowly and steadily start rolling your sushi. Once the sushi roll is ready, cut it into small bite-sized pieces. 
  4. Serve your makizushi with a soy dip. You can also drizzle some flavourful mayonnaise on top of your sushi. Again, for a spicy kick, you can also add a small amount of wasabi on the side of your plate.
