Ingredients

To make these Halloween cake pops, gather the following:

Cake:

  • 1 box of cake mix (any flavor)
  • Ingredients listed on the cake mix box (typically eggs, oil, and water)

Frosting:

  • ½ cup of frosting (vanilla or chocolate)

Decorations:

  • White, orange, and black candy melts
  • Lollipop sticks
  • Edible markers
  • Halloween sprinkles and decorative sugars

Step-by-Step Halloween Cake Pops Recipe

Step 1: Bake the Cake

  • To make the cake, follow the cookies and cream cake mix instructions on the box, literally.
  • After baking allow it to cool completely. This is important because putting frosting on a warm cake will not produce a structure that will hold properly.

Step 2: Crumble and Mix

  • When the cake is done cool it and then break the cake into fine crumbs within a large bowl.
  • Stir ½ cup of frosting to the crumbs then continue to blend until the mixture is sticky. If it’s too dry, then add a little more of the frosting mixture.

Step 3: Shape the Cake Balls

  • Place a spoon in a cup in which you make small indents and use this spoon to scoop out small portions of the cake mixture forming 1-inch balls.
  • Put them with a foil in a serving tray to bake them.
  • Otherwise, you can serve chilled on the same day and refrigerate for about 30 minutes then they firm up.

Step 4: Insert the Sticks

  • Microwave a small batch of candy melts (use the color of your choice for your decoration).
  • Dip the end of a lollipop stick into the melted candy and then, place it halfway into the bottom of the cake ball.
  • Do the same with all cake balls, and leave them in the fridge again for another 15 minutes.

Step 5: Decorate

  • Place your candy melts in different bowls you’ll need for a different color.
  • Place each cake pop into the melted candy, using the stick to turn the cake ball in the candy solution.
  • Place the candy coatings into the Styrofoam and before these harden, sprinkle Halloween toppings like little pumpkins, mummies, ghosts or whatever Halloween design you fancy with decorative sugars.
  • Add additional details like the eyes, the mouths, and so on when the coating has dried up, preferably using edible markers.

Step 6: Let Them Set

  • Place each cake pop in a foam block or styrofoam to allow the coating to set to the appropriate hardness.
  • This can be served cold; therefore, the preparations should be refrigerated for, perhaps, a number of minutes before being served.
