โ— In 1740, this Chicken Roulade recipe first popped up in a cookbook called Le Cuisinier Gascon in Amsterdam.

โ— Historians date back this recipe during the times of the French Revolution in 1789. It represents struggle, creativity and the long-lasting effect of the French Cuisine.

The following ingredients are just enough to make the best version of this dish. Follow all the steps carefully, and in the end, you will be able to make the dish perfect for at least 4 servings.

Ingredients:

โ— 1/3 cup of Pillsbury All Purpose Flour

โ— 2 large boneless skinless Chicken Breasts

โ— 1.5 cups of Cheddar Cheese

โ— 4 to 5 strips of Bacon for Roulade

โ— 1/4 teaspoon of Garlic Powder

โ— 1/3 teaspoon of Paprika

โ— 2 to 3 tablespoons of grated Parmesan Cheese

โ— 1.5 teaspoons of Italian Seasoning

โ— 1/4 cup of Flour (optional)

โ— 1 cup of steamed Broccoli

Chicken Roulade Recipe: A Step-by-step Guide For You

Step 1

At first, we will have to preheat our Dutch Oven to 375ยฐF at least. Once you are done with the primary step, start cooking the bacon strips. Wait for a few minutes and once they become crispy, set them aside first. Let them cool down for a bit and chop the crispy bacon strips roughly. On a separate bowl, start boiling the broccoli using unsalted water.

Step 2

After 6 to 7 minutes, the Broccoli will start to become tender enough to be cut in dices with a knife. Afterward, cut the Roulade Chicken in two separate halves and slice them from the middle. With a meat pounder, pound it thoroughly by covering it with a saran wrap. Don’t overdo this process otherwise the chicken will be torn.

Step 3

The more you will cook the chicken, the more these pieces will swell up with time and heat. Now, the best way to cook the chicken is to place the smoother side downwards. So that when you start to roll it, the surface becomes smoothest with time. After some time, take a wooden spoon and pour the cheese through the middle of the chicken slice.

Step 4

Make sure you are distributing the cheese evenly throughout the slice of the Roulade Chicken. After that, put the bacon chops and the boiled broccoli. This step is important for you otherwise the ingredients might remain a but uncooked from within. If the distribution remains uneven, try to spread it well with a wooden spoon.

Step 5

After that, keep the narrow part of the chicken facing upwards towards you. Now, with a large spoon, slowly start to roll the chicken upwards and tuck in the stuffing while rolling. Season with garlic powder, Italian Seasoning, Paprika, Kosher salt and pepper from above. With a twine, tie the chicken rolls up. Set aside and start to heat the bacon reserve on medium heat in a large skillet.

Step 6

Add chicken to this oil and keep cooking till you notice sear on all the sides. Soon, after 5 to 6 minutes, the chicken will turn golden brown in colour. Once done, keep this Roulade chicken in a lightly greased baking dish with the seam side up and facing you. Cover it up properly and bake this for the next 15 minutes at least.

Step 7

Once 15 minutes are over, uncover it, cut the twines and bake again for another 15 minutes. Let this rest for another 6 to 8 minutes in a tray. Make sure the thick part of the meat is cooked entirely. You can also measure the temperature with a meat thermometer. Once it has reached 160ยฐF, the Chicken Roulade recipe will be good to go.

Storage And Serving Options:

โ— Since this is a meat recipe, you can serve this one with a side of baked green beans. For best taste, make some mashed potatoes at home, garnish the meat with some paprika from above and serve it in serving bowls.

โ— You can easily store it in an airtight and microwave friendly container in the freezer for 4 to 5 days. However, before having it again, reheat in the microwave for at least 2.5 to 3 minutes.
