Veggie Lo Mein recipe is not only extremely tasty and yummy, but you just need half an hour to prepare this savory and chewy noodle dish. With only a handful of regular grocery ingredients, you can easily prepare a good bowl of Veggie Lo Mein. Thus, on popular demand, here is our version of the Veggie Lo Mein recipe.

  • Origin – The original term โ€˜lo meinโ€™ originated from the Cantonese word, lou1 min6, which literally translates into “stirred noodles”. It is seen as a traditional Chinese noodle dish that can be easily found in any local Chinese eatery or fine-dining restaurant.
  • Inspiration – As per our thoughts, Veggie Lo Mein is surely inspired by the recipe of Chicken or Pork Lo Mein. The main difference here is we mainly replace the meat element from the recipe and add more healthier veggies into the dish.
  • Popularity – A dish once originated in China, is now famous all over the world. Speaking specifically of the Veggie Lo Mein recipe, we must say that it is quite popular among vegans and vegetarians.

Recipe Variations – In our Veggie Lo Mein recipe, we have used a bunch of fresh and healthy vegetables, like onions, bell peppers, carrots, beans, cabbage, green onion and mushrooms. But you can also add broccoli and spinach to your noodles. Also, if you are not in the mood to chop vegetables, feel free to use frozen vegetables. We are using Hakka noodles here, but you can also substitute them with egg noodles.

Veggie Lo Mein Recipe Ingredients

  • Vegetable Oil for cooking
  • Hakka Noodles, boiled
  • 1 Onion, thinly sliced
  • 5-6 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 carrots, julienne
  • 5-6 Beans, sliced
  • 1 Green Cabbage, thinly sliced
  • 8 Button Mushrooms, chopped
  • 1 Red Bell Pepper, sliced
  • 1 Green Bell Pepper, sliced
  • 1 Yellow Bell Pepper, sliced
  • 2 Green onions, each cut into four halves
  • 4 tbsp of Dark Soy Sauce
  • 3 tbsp of Light Soy Sauce
  • 1-2 tsp of corn flour
  • 3 tbsp of Chinese Cooking Wine
  • 2 tbsp of Sesame Oil
  • 1 tbsp of white sugar
  • Salt and pepper as per taste

Easy Veggie Lo Mein Recipe – Step-By-Step Guide

Step 1

Before we head to the cooking process, let us quickly prepare our Veggie Lo Mein sauce. In a bowl, add dark soy sauce, light soy sauce, Chinese cooking wine and cornflour. Mix everything together and later on, also add sesame oil, sugar, salt and pepper to the bowl. Mix everything with a spoon, and make sure there are no lumps present in your sauce.

Step 2

Now, to begin this easy Veggie Lo Mein recipe, firstly heat up your wok and drizzle some vegetable oil on it. Keep the flame medium and add minced garlic and sliced onion pieces to the wok. Let it cook until the onion pieces start to look translucent and then add sliced pieces of carrots, beans and bell peppers to the wok.

Step 3

Give everything a good stir and let it cook for a few minutes. At this point, you can change the flame setting to low. Now, after 3 to 4 minutes, go ahead and add button mushrooms and chopped cabbage to the wok. Stir it again and cook it for 4 to 5 more minutes. Wait until all the veggies have been cooked properly and only then add the boiled noodles.

Step 4

Once the veggies have become soft, add the boiled noodles to the wok. Drizzle your prepared sauce mix on the noodles and stir everything together on medium flame. Toss the noodles well with all the vegetables and lastly add the green onions on top of your prepared Veggie Lo Mein. Serve it hot on a fancy plate and pair it with a fizzy drink on the side.
