If you want, you can also use smoked cod roe. For the prep, slice up some onions and heat up a pan.  Step 2  In the pan, drizzle some olive oil, and add the minced garlic and sliced onions. Season it with some salt and sauté for a while. We are not looking for a golden color here, so surely keep an eye on the onions.  Step 3 Once the onions start to appear translucent, you can turn off the flame. Take the sauteed onions out of the pan and keep aside. Now, in a big bowl, pour in water.  Step 4 Take out the bread slices, and first chop off the sides of the bread. Now, dunk these breads in the water for a few seconds! As the bread soaks up a bit of water, you can take it out of the bowl and keep it aside.  Step 5  Now, in a blender jar or food processor, add the soaked-up bread pieces, cod roe, sauteed onions, olive oil and lemon juice. Sprinkle some salt and pepper and turn on the blender.  Step 6 If you want you can also add a bit of lemon zest inside of the blender. We are looking for a smooth consistency here. The color of this tasty Greek dip depends heavily on your choice of cod roe!  Step 7 If you want you can also replace the bread slices with boiled potatoes. Remember olive oil plays a huge role here, so, surely don’t skip this ingredient. Once everything is properly blended, you can turn off the food processor.  Step 8  Serve this rich Taramosalata in a flat bowl. Don’t forget to garnish this dip with a good drizzle of olive oil and some canned olives! You can easily pair this with any fluffy and flavorful Greek or Turkish bread. Again, if you want you can also take any hard bread of your choice, toast it for a while in the oven and then serve it alongside this meze dish.  Nutritional Value (Per tablespoon) READ MORE – Traditional Greek salad recipe- a detailed step-by-step guide!
